One participant asked: “Explain 100 Basis Points. How is it used when interest rates are in percentages?”

  2. Ag In Uncertain Times Team says:

A basis point is 1/100th of a percentage point. My interest rate on my home loan is 6.25% or 625 basis points. A banker would say that his cost of funds was 225 basis points, the spread he wants for the risk of the loan and his operational costs is 300 basis points (BP) for a retail loan price to the customer of 525 bp or 5.25%
