\r\n   Given the rising price of oil and the mandates in the EISA, the pressure for cellulosic biofuels has never been greater. However, the production of these biofuels has lagged, not meeting the mandated levels, even after they’ve been reduced.
\r\n   The AAEA Extension Section and the Western Farm Management Extension Committee have organized a webinar evaluating commercialization of cellulosic biofuels and discussing farmers’ abilities to overcome production, logistical, and environmental constraints to delivering switchgrass, wheat straw, and corn stover\/cobs feedstocks in the Great Plains.

Ag and the Tax Relief Act of 2010 – Key Changes for Farmers and Ranchers<\/strong><\/span>
\r\nMonday – February 7, 2011<\/strong>
\r\nThe Tax Relief Act of 2010 has a number of changes to the tax code important to agricultural producers. In this Ag in Uncertain Times webinar, we will be discussing the key changes in the new Tax Law and how they affect agricultural producers. Many of the changes will have a direct impact on depreciation and expensing options available to businesses. The discussion will be useful for all sizes and types of farms and ranches.
\r\n   Gary J. Hoff<\/a>, Extension Specialist \u2013 Taxation, at the University of Illinois, will be providing an overview of the various changes relevant to agricultural producers.
\r\n   Dr. Ruby Ward<\/a> from the Department of Applied Economics at Utah State University will take a closer look at the special depreciation rule which allows 100% of the cost of new assets to be expensed in the year purchased and how the election of this option could affect the operations depreciation and cash flow.<\/p>\r\n

Managing Volatility In Agriculture Web Seminar Series<\/strong><\/span>
\r\nDecember 8, 2010: Volatility in American Agriculture<\/strong>
\r\n   Daniel Sumner<\/a>, Ph.D., Director, University of California, Agricultural Issues Center, and Professor, University of California, Davis will set the context for the Managing Volatility in Agriculture seminar series on December 8 with an overview of the factors continuing to support volatility in ag and input markets.
\r\n   Danny Klinefelter<\/a>, Ph.D., Professor, Texas A&M University and Extension Economist, Texas AgriLife Extension, will follow with a presentation on the management principles that all producers can apply to their farm and ranch businesses to help manage the variety of risks associated with farm product and input price volatility.<\/p>\r\n

December 9, 2010: Volatility and the Livestock Industry<\/strong>
\r\n   Gary Brester<\/a>, Ph.D., Professor, Montana State University and John Hewlett<\/a>, Farm\/ Ranch Management Specialist, University of Wyoming will address both sources and causes of volatility in livestock markets over the past 12 months as well as, anticipated changes through the coming year on an international, national, and regional level. An outline of the position that livestock sector participants should take to best weather the coming swings in U.S. livestock markets will conclude the session.<\/p>\r\n

December 15, 2010: Volatility and Grains <\/strong>
\r\n   Ed Allen, International Grains Team, USDA-ERS and Duane Griffith<\/a>, Extension Farm Management Specialist, Montana State University will address current conditions and future volatility in the grain markets and explain how this type of volatility provides new marketing opportunities for producers. A review of tools available to take advantage of relatively high markets, when they appear, will also be covered.<\/p>\r\n

December 16, 2010: Volatility and Fresh Fruits & Vegetables<\/strong>
\r\n   Roberta Cook<\/a>, Ph.D., Marketing Economist, University of California, Davis, will lead this session by highlighting and discussing major risk factors, issues and trends causing volatility in the fruit and vegetable industry while presenting strategies for the industry to be successful in the 21st century.
\r\n   Kynda Curtis<\/a>, Ph.D., Associate Professor and Extension Specialist, Utah State University will provide an overview and discuss several management tools available to minimize the risk and volatility to a fruit and vegetable producing operation.
